Imagine you are 20 weeks pregnant with twin girls. You are thrilled, excited, over the moon! And then you are told at your next doctor’s appointment: things are not looking good. The babies are sharing a placenta. One baby is getting too much of the blood flow from the placenta. And the other baby is not getting nearly enough. It’s called Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. Since you are only halfway through your pregnancy, your only option is surgery- a very risky one in which one or both of your babies may die.
That’s Amber & Joey's story. After a successful surgery, Eden and Noelle were born at 31 weeks. We shot her maternity session four weeks before the girls were born, and let me tell y’all, Amber looked like she could go into labor at any second. It was so ridiculously hot. She kept getting dizzy and out of breath and having to sit down. I was seriously concerned the shoot was going to send her into labor and it would be all my fault.

Introducing Elizabeth | houston newborn photographer

Is there anything sweeter than a sleeping newborn? Miss Elizabeth was photographed at a month old, which is much later than I like to shoot a newborn session. But about a week after her parents brought her home, she started showing some alarming symptoms and they rushed her back to the hospital. It was a scary 10 days but she was soon back to her sweet, healthy self. I know her mama was so glad to finally get her home for good!
I loved getting to shoot their maternity session AND their first family session. It is so fun for me to get to do both those shoots for a client. It's such a sweet time. Those last few days of a growing belly, to-do lists, swelling ankles, trying to savor every minute of sleep you can. And then those first few days of parenthood, sleepless nights, getting to know this new little person. It's such an honor and joy for me to get to capture that transition. There is no other period of life like this. It's downright magical. You can see Alan & Jen's maternity session posted HERE.
How precious are those little baby toes? I could just eat ‘em up!
Jen found the cutest little diaper cover and headband set on Etsy. Raise your hand if you know firsthand how addictive that website can be. *raises hand*
