Morning
I slept 10 hours last night. Ryan was so sweet, and let me go to bed early while he gave E her last bottle and put her to bed for the night. And she didn't wake up once all night. After her bottle this morning I laid her on her playmat and am now watching her kick and laugh and talk to and play with the animals hanging over her head. All this while I listen to/watch the rain, drink french press coffee, and catch up on my favorite blogs. This non-morning person is loving this perfect morning.

Happy Birthday!
Elizabeth,
Happy Birthday, sweet girl! You are 3 months old! This letter is a few days late because you got sick for the first time this week. I picked you up from daycare on Tuesday and you had your first runny nose ever, and a little bitty cough. By that night you were running a fever, so Daddy and I took you to the doctor on Wednesday. She took one look in your ear, looked up and me, and said, “She has a RAGING ear infection”. If it hadn’t been for the runny nose, cough, and fever- one could never tell you were sick. You were still kicking like crazy, smiling and laughing constantly. You don’t even mind when I have to use the bulb aspirator on your nose. In fact, you think it’s hilarious. You might be the weirdest baby I’ve ever met.
This month has been so much fun with you. You are the happiest baby ever and smile and laugh all the time. You’ve kicked your cooing up a notch. It is so amazing to watch you try to figure out how language works. You are constantly “talking” to us. You are definitely trying to communicate SOMETHING, even if we don’t know what that is yet. You are very expressive- everyone thinks you seem older than 3 months. Our friend Cason says he expects you at any minute to sit up and start talking about Obama’s economic policies.
You started going to daycare at West University Baptist this month. That is where your daddy and papa grew up going to church. You are in the “Little Lambs” class with these two precious ladies named Annabella and Damaris. Two mornings a week while I am at work you are there. The third morning that I’m at work, Miss Damaris comes to our house to watch you. She says you are very advanced, with all your smiling and talking and kicking. She says you will be an early walker. We’ll see.
We’ve also started putting you in the nursery on Sunday mornings at First Baptist. I was putting it off, because I loved holding you during the service and Sunday school. However, one morning you were awake the whole Sunday school hour and we spent the whole time smiling and laughing at each other. You were such a distraction- I didn’t hear a word of the lesson. The next week we put you in the nursery, and you did just great. We got home and found tucked in the diaper bag the little Bible lesson they’d read you that morning. So sweet.
You’ve progressed from just looking at the animals hanging above your head on your activity mat, to reaching up and batting at them, to actually concentrating really hard and grabbing ahold of the giraffe’s foot. You are changing and growing so fast.
You’ve rolled over a couple of times! But when you roll onto your tummy, your arm is still stuck underneath you and you can’t figure out how to get it out. And you don’t really like being on your tummy, so once you roll all the way over, you’re not very happy. Just this week on your tummy, you are finally able to really pick your head and chest up for a bit. We went forever with zero progress, so it’s neat to see that this whole “tummy time” thing is working!
We went to the beach over Labor Day. Cousin Sandra calls you “Magic Baby” because you are so ridiculously good and easy. We put you in your little swimsuit and took you down to the water, but you slept almost the entire time we had you in the water. How different it will be next year when you are running all over the place! While we were at the beach we celebrated my 30th birthday. Waking up to your sweet face is the best birthday gift I’ve ever gotten.
Speaking of faces, when you were first born, every single person said you looked exactly like your daddy. Now, as you are growing and changing, every single person says you look exactly like me. I think you’re a pretty good mix of us, and absolutely the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
So, happy birthday, sweet girl. I am loving every minute with you.
I love you,
Momma

Under Construction
I wasn't really "feeling" the fall background. It sorta made me want to vomit every time I checked on the blog, so I can only imagine how it made YOU feel. This one feels more like what I want, but is still not quite right. Bear with me while I figure it out.

Blog Recommendation
Can I please just recommend my friend Ashley's blog to you? Her post today was particularly truthful and encouraging. But I always love what she has to say.

Back to School
"Back to school, back to school,
to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool.
I got my lunch packed up
my boots tied tight.
I hope I don't get in a fight.
Ohhhhh back to school."
Elizabeth started school last Friday.
At orientation her teachers told me she'd need shoes
on her feet and a sweater in her diaper bag.
This is what she looked like when I went to pick her up.
I brought her straight home and pulled out the camera.
She had a great first day. Her teachers are the two sweetest
ladies to walk the planet.
This is the only shot I got of my 2 girls before Phoebe ran away.
Bodyguard
Here's Elizabeth with her bodyguard, Liam.
Seriously, people, you do not want to mess with E-Money now.
E is 12 weeks. L is 7 weeks.
At 2 months, E weighed 10 pounds. L weighed 20.
Sweet Liam...don't you just want to kiss his cheeks?
Both his momma and daddy are over 6 feet, and gorgeous as can be.
I'm thinking he might grow to be a handy friend to have around
on the playground.

Reason #738
Why I Love Ryan Craig: Reason #738:
I was curled up on the couch tonight with Elizabeth and Phoebe the Wonder Dog. Ryan gets up to go to bed, but stops first to give each of the 3 of us a kiss on the head. With each kiss he says, "Good night to you." Then he goes, "Goodnight to all my ladies". And then he busts into Beyonce's song All the Single Ladies. God, how I love that crazy man.

Happy Fall, Y'all!
My friend Allison inspired me to change my blog background for fall. I'm excited about fall: all my cute fall decorations, cooler weather, Halloween, Thanksgiving, pumpkins, a growing & more interactive girl. Gotta run...that baby girl needs a BATH!

We love playdates!
Something that I didn't realize about new motherhood,
is how AWESOME playdates are!
This morning my friend Amanda brought over her gorgeous
baby boy, Elijah. Amanda and I were in the same birthing class,
and her E is just two weeks older than my E.

that's fit to make an old one out of." (Sarah Orne Jewett)

Quitter

I read The Secret Life of Bees a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. Loved it so much I wanted to read it again. I forgot, though, that I really hate reading books a second time. Except for Harry Potter. I'm not sure why he makes the exception. Anyway, I was waiting for some new books to come in from Amazon, and the minute they did, I couldn't resist them. So, I put down The Secret Life of Bees. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. And please don't tell me you've seen the movie.
GOTCHA!

Dream a Little Dream
I am turning the big 3-0 this weekend, which of course gets me thinking about life, my past, dreams for my future. I am grateful for my twenties, in which I moved a long way from home, grew up, figured out who I was, and became a real adult. In my twenties God gave me the desires of my heart: Ryan and Elizabeth. I struggled for many, many years with depression and cried out to God for healing and joy. Two years ago, He provided both. In my early twenties, I suffered from ridiculously low self-esteem. I never thought I was enough. Pretty enough, thin enough, tan enough, cool enough. I mean, I’m not perfect. I’m still a woman, so still struggle with self-esteem issues, but praise God- they are not what they were. I like who I am. I like what I look like. I think I’m pretty damn cool.
God is so faithful. As I look back on my twenties, I see His hand at every corner, at every part of the journey. To sit here at thirty and look back on all the prayers I prayed in my twenties- I am astounded. He has answered so many of them. There were days, suffering from depression and infertility, that I never thought I would see the other side. But here I am. On the other side. It’s a beautiful place, and it’s only by God’s grace that I’m here.
Dreams for this year:
1. Be an organized, creative, structured, calm, fun art teacher.
2. Become a Pilates junkie.
3. Grow deep friendships.
4. Write a book.
5. Create art at least once a week.
6. Enjoy a weekend away with Ryan (without Elizabeth).
7. Have internet free weekends and nights.
8. Become a runner.
9. Meditate daily.
10. Really figure out how to work my new camera, and take pictures every day.
11. Blog every day, Monday-Friday.
12. Cook healthy dinners. Enjoy cooking. Let go of stress & perfectionism.
13. Pay attention.
14. Read everyday.
15. Travel with Ryan and Elizabeth somewhere in the US next summer for our 1st Family Vacation.
16. Live life abundantly.
Thank You, God, for thirty beautiful years. Thank You for hearing me when I cry out to You, and taking seriously my prayers and the desires of my heart. Thank You for moving in my life, for Your active involvement. I am so grateful. I can’t wait to look at this list in a year, to see what I’ve accomplished, how I’ve changed, and what You’ve done in my life.
